Swirls of Color

This week, I tried something new with heat embossing.  Sure, I've heat embossed before... but never using several colors at the same time.  I saw a video online showing this multicolor embossing technique and thought I would give it a try.  Here's how it came out:

I just love the look of embossed ink.  It has that wet, shiny look.  I didn't really have a card in mind when I tried this technique so I kind of worked in reverse on this project.  I started with my SP&Co background image (which I think may be retired now -- because I couldn't find it in the store), added a few layers, a bow, and finished it off with white gel pen stitch marks.

Believe it or not, the dry embossed white tiled layer was actually a scrap of card stock that I had used when I was practicing the faux tile technique.  The technique itself is awesome (you should try it!) but I didn't like how my practice project turned out... so I flipped the card stock over and found another use for it!  It became the perfect de-bossed mat for my swirly background focal point.

Working in reverse order, I started with the stamped image, added the black and white layers, and secured it to the red card base.  I liked how the colors played together but still felt like it needed something else. Fortunately, I was able to run some black satin ribbon between the second and third layers (thank you, dimensionals!) and had room for the bow. I also added the white gel pen stitch marks which pulled everything together so nicely!

I was going to add a sentiment, but in the end felt like it wasn't necessary.  I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
