Hello World: Sneak Peek of Scrapbook for Niece or Nephew -- Coming Soon!

So we've had a lot going on this week but on top of all of that, I've been under a tight two-week deadline to get my first complete scrapbook finished -- to give to my sister for her baby shower on Sunday.  I finished the book a couple of days ago and it turned out really great!  I am so excited to give it to her!

Unfortunately, I couldn't keep it a surprise.  When we visited a few weeks ago, I discovered she had already bought an album.  I had to tell her I was planning on making her an album as my gift.  I offered to make her an album and fortunately, she totally loved the idea! The big reveal will still be somewhat of a surprise on Sunday.  I have only given her two sneak peeks so far... this layout included.

My sister is a big fan of Instagram so when I decided to put this album together for her baby, it made perfect sense to add placeholders that would fit 4x4 Instagram photos (i.e., the yellow square above).  I wanted to make it easy for her to just fill in the info and add a photo or two.

This layout here is dedicated to the page when the baby is born.  I thought "Hello World" was a perfect phrase to use since I incorporated details of the birth with documentation of current events, prices of common goods, etc. from "the world around me".  I got the idea from a baby book we received when our daughter was born.   For example, you can say who the President was, add popular movies or TV shows, or document the price of a gallon of gas or the cost of a postage stamp.

I also tried really hard to keep this page gender neutral since they are waiting to find out the baby's sex.  See the shower invitations I made here.

This was also my first chance to use SP&Company's Big Build a Banner stamp set and coordinating die tools.  Which are super great, by the way!  I colored the banners with my Copics.

Since this week's Trends Challenge at Scrapmaster's Paradise uses banners and flags, I've also decided I'm going to use this layout for my entry.  Wish me luck!

I am really proud of the way this page turned out!  It's one of my favorites in the entire album!

UPDATE 4/9/13: When I designed the album, I tried to coordinate pages that were opposite from one another.  I cut out the baby bottle and carriage on my Cricut Expression and used SP&Company's Scallops and Lines stamp set for journaling.

Here's a larger view of the opposite page:

In ten more weeks, my new niece or nephew will be here! Can't wait!!
